Hillsboro Beach sits on a thin barrier island, ocean on one side and the Intracoastal on the other, and Hillsboro Inlet marks its southern tip. The town is almost exclusively residential with no commercial marina inside its limits, boats here dock behind homes on the Intracoastal side rather than at a public facility.
Hillsboro Beach is a narrow peninsula about 3 miles long and, at its widest, only about 900 feet across, with the Intracoastal on one side and the Atlantic on the other. The town has a single road running its full length north to south, and roughly 50 single-family homes alongside its condominiums, a year-round population of about 2,000 that grows once seasonal residents arrive for winter. There's no room here for a commercial marina; what boats there are dock behind homes on the Intracoastal side.
Hillsboro Inlet marks the town's southern tip and is the passage boats here use to reach the Atlantic, the same inlet, cut generations ago, that gives Lighthouse Point and Pompano Beach their own ocean access just to the north. A boat docked anywhere along Hillsboro Beach's Intracoastal side is a short run from open water, without the canal maze that a town like Lighthouse Point is built on.

Hillsboro Beach boats mainly sit on the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean and the Hillsboro Inlet. The town has no commercial marina, boating here runs through private docks behind Intracoastal-side homes.
